I have not watched a chinese movie in a long while ( not counting DVDs) . Had the chance to catch one with Alex last nite :)

I guess the many big names in the movie
helps in deciding to watch or not
to watch this film .

This movie is a collaboration between mainland China actors and big names Hongkong actors. Most of the China actors are like leaves and the Hk actors are the flowers :)

In recent years, Hk movies are not doing so well..so I sure hope this movie can give it some boost.

Here's a brief storyline :

Ten thousand years ago, eight gods fought incessantly, not realizing that by doing so, they would be demoted into the secular world. They can only return to heaven once they can get along harmoniously.

Ten thousand years later, they meet again in Guangzhou under different modern personas, not knowing they used to be gods. What unfolds is an urban romance full of jokes which can “startle the universe and move the gods”.

When finally they discover that they are the gods who have been transformed into humans, they wonder why the eighth god has not appeared at all. Meanwhile, the newfound harmony is again thrown into disarray by the beginning of a love affair.

To sum it up, it's a chinese Romeo and Juliet story. It's about two star cross lovers (in my own opinion ) who met each other many yrs ago n meet again each time they reborn as humans.

The two main leads, Karen Mok and Eason Chen are two of my personal favorites all these years! Karen first started out in the movie with a morbid grunge look..complete with the black thick eye shadow. The transformation from human to one of the heavenly dragons also sees her morphed into this pretty and sexy cute sweet thing with long wavy locks. She looks immaculate in that tight outfit and you can't tell that she is over 40 yrs old !

Eason Chen plays her love nemesis and also the nemesis of the rest of the 7 heavenly dragons. I know he is not the best looking singer and actor, but he has a charm which I like :P

I shall not go into who are the China actors..for I don't know any of them! hahaha.

I will be honest with you..I have very little knowledge of the Greek mythology and I probably wouldn't ace it if Greek mythology were to be an examinable subject :P One thing for sure, the stories are quite fairy tale like and it seems impossible for anything of that sort to have happened before.

A new movie that will be opening in Singapore this Thursday 17/11 has elements of the Greek mythology, and it is non other than "Immortals"

Here's a brief synopsis of the movie :

Eons after the Gods won their mythic struggle against the Titans, a new evil threatens the land. Mad with power, King Hyperion has declared war against humanity. Amassing a bloodthirsty army of soldiers disfigured by his own hand, Hyperion has scorched Greece in search of the legendary Epirus Bow, a weapon of unimaginable power forged in the heavens by Ares.
This leads Hyperion to get with the virgin oracle Phaedra (high priestess of sort) , who’s looking for the Bow herself while giving up her precious virginity to a Greek peasant named Theseus. Secretly chosen by Zeus, Theseus must save his people from Hyperion and his hordes

This movie to me is quite a no brainier. How difficult can it be to understand two sides at war? So we have solved that. There is always the good guys and the bad guys..

What I like about the movie are the graphics and actions. Nicely executed moves and wonderful CG effects :P

Oh, did I mention that the lead actors have great bods ? Oh yeah.. eye candy :P drool at their well toned bodies :P One thing though, I have no idea who are they :P Yeah.. not many great names in this production.

It may not be the best movie of the year, but it sure
is an entertaining one! I like epic films!

The One who watched Easy A

I have no idea who Emma Stone was before watching Easy A. Thanks to Janet of Pepperconn, I got invited to the media preview just a couple of days ago. I asked Chris to join me for some laughter and destressing :)

Emma Stone is kinda pretty and looks good in those clothes she wore in the movie. The movie is set in a high school collage and before you think it is the typical girl falls for guy and some other girl snatches him away story line.. I tell u it is not :)

News spread like fire gone wild after Stone lies about losing her virginity . She retorts by adding fuel to the fire and there were lots of great sarcastic lines from her. I had no expectations of the movie and was surprise that there were many laughable moments .

We both totally enjoyed the movie :)

The one who watched The Social Network

Thanks to Mus my friend, I watched the preview of 'The Social Network' 1 weeks ago.

Where have you been if you have not heard about the supposedly 'facebook' movie?

Do you know how did Facebook started, and who is the founder? This is the movie for you if you are a great supporter of this social networking site. I mean , you spend so many waking hours on the site and yet , you know nothing about the how it got started and the story behind it..and how you are contributing to this person's wealth. :P

This movie isn't really about facebook. It's about the founder ,Mark Zuckerberg, about how he strike when the iron is hot...and how he 'made used' of certain information and how fragile friendship can be in this day and age. Being the youngest billionaire at age 23 ( yr 2007), he really did make it big with Facebook. How will he or Facebook fare in the years to come is still anybody's guess.

I enjoyed the movie even though it was mostly conversational. My after thoughts .. hmm..the new social media is here to stay, like it or not.

pss.. i kinda like the actor who played the role of Mark... alittle geeky and nerdy.. :P i like guys with brains

This is a great animation movie for all ages!

It tells the tale of a villain , Gru, who has been superseded by a younger villain. So Gru tried to surpass him by accomplishing something deemed more powerful than the younger villain. In the process of doing so, he adopted 3 cute little orphan girls and eventually he turned over a new leaf as the girls managed to win his heart.

Gru's voice is played by Steve Carell ( of The Office , The 40 yr old virgin etc ) He is one of my fav. actors.. albeit little irritating at times to see him being the idiotic boss in The office .

It was full house when we watched it on Friday night 11.15pm at Cineleisure . Nicole was the only kid in the whole cinema :P All 6 of us laughed from the start of the movie to the end. The minions were so cute!

Down the rabbit hole - Alice in the Wonderland

I can't tell you how much I enjoyed Alice in Wonderland! I like all the details put into the movie, I love the characters, I love the 3 D effects ! You just have to watch it in 3D. The movie came alive in front of our eyes ..it's really worth the $14 eheheeh. It's not hard to tell that alot of work has gone into the production and alot of green screen scenes too as alot of the scenes are animated.

I have always enjoyed Tim Burton's production .

Oh, Nicole joined us adults at the movie and she was apparently quite frighted by some of the scenes in the movie. I mean Tulgey wood where Alice has fallen into isn't a very bright place , plus some characters are evil.. so I guess Nicole being almost 5 yrs old is more in tune with chirpy bright movies instead of this.

Still she managed to sit thru the movie without disturbing us much :D

My outfit over the weekend

So what is "the ugly truth'?

Darn.. I have read quite a few bad reviews for this movie.. they said that the lead actress spoilted the movie.. But i kinda enjoyed it .

I like the chemistry between Gerard Bulter and Katherine Heigl, whom both by the way are great actors and I like them ! Do you know Katherine Heigl is married already? I am slow..I just sorta found out while watching some entertaiment news program on cable . i am like S L O W :D

Back to the movies.. do bear in mind that it's NC16 ... mainly because of the langauge used. Ahem.. they threw the usual "f'' and other words of 'action' plus some rather interesting toys that may get you interested :P Oh well.. apart from the actors, the storyline is very cliche actually. Girl dislike guy, guy dislike girl, somehow they fell in love and end up together. I guess they could have done a better job with the story :P and the whole men think with their lower half while women with their heart.. okay..i kinda like those stupid jokes..but this 'theory' has been there and done with many many times.

Funny thing is, I guess not many people in the audience laughed at the jokes. Christine and I were however laughing our head off at those scenes and silly jokes.

If you are able to withstand silly sexual jokes and just watch a mindless movie.. you should watch this :P Go in and have a few laughs..and unwind! :)

The One who Watched The Time Traveler's WIfe

It was all thanks to Lynn who recommended me the book... way back in 2005. She was even the one whom I borrowed the book from ( I got my own copy 2 years ago , in 2007) .

Here's the entry where I jotted down about me reading and crying over it. It was just a one liner back in that entry.

I read the book for the 2nd time last year after purchasing my own copy :) It still left an aching sad feeling in me even though it was the 2nd read. I still teared as I flipped the pages and got myself immersed in the story. It was a bitter sweet tale of how a boy was able to transient into the past and future , and how a young girl met and fell in love with the time traveller.

Of coz I was elated when I heard that Hollywood has decided to make a movie out of the story.

I have been kinda warned not to have high hopes for the movie, so I entered the theater with little expectations :P

Well, the gist of the story was there of coz. Everything was beautiful..the scenes and backdrops were nice and dreamy..just like how it was in the book. However, the movie didn't moved me the way the book did.

Straits Times Life gave the movie 2 /5 stars for having dull dialogue between the two lead characters , Henry and Clare. Hmm.. personally I found it okay. I always take critics' views with a pinch of salt. I mean they are bound to have their own biasness :}

I find the movie watchable..but perhaps not quite worth $9.50 during the weekends :P Go mon- wed :P

Politics is a dirty game-- The State of Play

It is so true -- Politics is a dirty game. It was depicted so in "The State of Play'' starring Russell Crowe and the once I liked Ben Affleck. Ben still has some charm but he doesn't ooze much appeal to me anymore unlike in the past :P However, Russell crowe, despite the unshaven journalist look in the movie, charms me more than ben :P

This movie has quite a few plots taking place at the same time. I love how the story unfolds itself and how it kept me guessing and trying to weave the pieces together :) There is suspense , there is politics and back stabbing, there is betrayal as well as how some people these days rather read the news online rather than reading the actual physical paper :P

All in all, I enjoyed this movie .
