I went for this exhibition alone 2 mths ago.  You will enjoy it if you like vintage items like me :)  Chongsams thru out the years..  most of them are super tight fit.. ladies in the past have really small waists!  the more affluent we are..the more we eat.. and the bigger in size we get!! :P  Chongsams wore by former first ladies.. Inspired by the sari :) such opulence    Lovely beaded heels to go with the chongsam.. shows off how sexy you can be.. Love those embroidery flowers How about some designer ones? This is by Alexendar Wang   This is more for me.. at least the skirt is A line : Such pretty boxes. These are some tailor shops boxes for storing chongsams There are more chongsams in stall for you  at the exhibition! Ciao for now folks!

Singapore Streets Exhibition at the National Library

Do you know there is an exhibition on Singapore Streets going on at the National Library ( Bras basah )
I had an enlightening afternoon going thru the photos and write up about the street names and buildings along our streets . It was tough trying to give names to so many roads in Singapore..( even though we are just a tiny island~!)

Do you find these street names sign board familiar ?

There was a change of street name sign boards

sometime in the 90s or early 2000s and the 

public could even buy the old ones for keepsake! 

This exhibtion also educate us on some brief history of Singapore 

and how our forefathers lived in the past.

 

 So interesting!

Never know some of these street names :P

I think in the past people would have shun Sey Yun Kai!

 Roads named after places in Myanmar

 Roads named after Commonwealth countries

 

 There's also fruit trees names 

in the East Coast area!

 

 Yes..the rich private estates have 

nice Ang mo places as street names

while the 80% of us have our address 

as some lorongs or some avenues!

How unfair! hahaha

Pls rename my estate!

I think it was cleared to make way for 

housing estates in Bendemeer and 

also Whampoa estate.

A place I am familier with...Bras Basah. I spent 4 years of my life here..

My secondary school was in Middle Road..

It was on of the last schools to move out of town..

I used to passed by these old shop houses as I walked to school
They were all demolished and Bugis Junction 

stands in their places

The Ones who visited the Titanic Exhibition at Artscience Museum

Have you visited the Titanic exhibition over at Marina Bay Sands? Alex and I went for the exhbition two wks ago on the first day of Lunar new year ( after visitations of coz ). We were there from 6pm-8pm. 

There are two parts to the exhibition. You may wanna watch a documentary on how archaeologist and reporters using special submarines and robots to explore the Titanic 12,600 feet deep in the ocean. It shows how badly damaged the ship is and how dangerous is is to be out in the middle of the ocean doing the exploration works. Do note that you need to pay an additional $5.00 to view this documentary. We did watch it and it was informational to a certain extend. But if cost is an issue, then I would say there is no need to watch it. 

Ticket prices

Non Singaporean citizens-S$24.00
Singaporean citizens- S$20.00

 OCBC card holders( regardless of nationality) -S$17.80 ! 

ooh yes! we both have OCBC cards :P

Upon entering the exhibtion, you will be given your 'boarding pass' 

You will assume one of the passengers on board Titanic

In our case, I survived, while Alex erm..didn't

the staff kept walking around to check 

if visitors were taking shots..

coz photography is not allowed..

One couple tried to snap a photo at the

first class cabin hallway but was stopped by 

the staff and she even wanted to check their phones :P

First class tickets cost $2,500!
That would be $57,200 at present times!

those who traveled third class were

mostly skilled workers
Third class tickets cost $40 and 

that would be about $500 today..

this is the third class cabin..was a quick shot I took..

on the right side were two of the same beds as this..

so it was 4 passengers in one cabin..

Postcards

most of the passengers were using leather bags and 

luggage..surprisingly the items kept inside 

were quite in good condition 

(not that badly damaged deep in the ocean bed)

There was a super big piece of 'ice berg' 

at the exhibition..

you can touch it and imagine how cold

those who were stranded in the waters felt..

many of the passengers died of hypothermia

instead of drowning in the ocean..

it was just too cold :(
