A musical evening with the CATS

If cats are your favorite animals, then get up close and personal with them at one of the longest running Broadway musical , Cats that is now playing at Mastercard Theather at Marina Bay Sands

Alex and I were joined by some of my blogging friends last week at the Gala Opening to get to know more about these furry friends !

here's us with Mag and her bestie Angie :)

I stepped into the theater with no expectations or whatsoever. It is our first time watching this production. Being a Andrew Lloyd-Webber fan, I know some of the songs in the musical and soon
started humming together to the tunes while watching the cats prancing and dancing on stage.

Based on the book of poems “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats” (1939) by T.S. Eliot, CATS tells the imaginative tale of a tribe of Jellicle Cats as they gather together for the annual Jellicle Ball, and one by one tell their stories for the amusement of Old Deuteronomy, who must choose one of the Cats to journey to the Heaviside Layer to be reborn into a new life

The whole stage was set up to resemble a dumpster / junk yard alley of sorts. I was quite impressed with the whole set up ! It does looked like a playground where cats would love to be at! Imagine
huge rubbish bins, and abandoned car, massive tyres, bicycles, even used tubes of toothpaste!

Being a feline lover myself,  I simply adore the cats' costumes !
Oh and also how the 53 strong cast of 'cat'rachters  oh I mean characters / actors managed to have mastered the cat's body languages and how feline like when they moved n danced.

As much as I like musicals, I sure didn't like it when the dance routines got a tad draggy and no one was singing nor talking during the final moments at the first half of the musical. Perhaps some narration would have been helpful at some point of the show.

Second part of the musical was the attention grabber. Things got more lively and we were introduced to more cats who wants to be reborn into a new life. There was Rum Tum Tugger the cat that can really gyrate to the music! He reminded me of Tom Jones! You bet the ladies were screaming when he was on stage ! :D

Another feline who steals the show would be Grizabelle , the passé or has been beauty cat who is now down and fallen. Totally love it when she sang Memory.

Oh! And I almost forgot all about the magician cat ! He is featured in the song 'Magical Mister Mistoffelees'. A very likable character that I enjoyed watching!

Don't miss out this entertaining musical! Catch it with your friends and family before it ends its run !
