Beauty world -- cha cha cha

It was a night of laughter and songs..just as it was in those days of the 60s cabaret :) We were glad we managed to catch Beauty world this time round! With this being our first Beauty world production, we weren't quite sure of the storyline and all, so it was a brand new musical for all 3 of us. I was joined by Chrissy and Maria last night :) I was too kinda young when they staged it for the first time 20 yrs back.

The songs are still fresh in my mind as I am typing this entry. You too would have been enthralled by the songs and the whole setting if you've been there :) The stage settings and costumes were whimsical and lavish ( no wonder the high ticket pricing ) It was all glit and glam :)

I must say Elana Wang, the newcomer, sang very well . She played the lead , Ivy Chan who came from M'sia to Singapore in search of her father. It was at Beauty world, a 'famous'cabaret, where she befriended Ah Hock, played by super star Daren Tan. It was refreshing seeing him in this 'ah beng' role. His acting was definitely good for a newbie on stage :)
One thing though, I guess he is used to speaking n singing in mandarin, there is a slight hint of 'cheena-ness' when he sings in english.

The rest of the cast were great. Neo Swee Ling managed to bring forth of how a cabaret mummy would be and Denise Tan was a sultry top bar girl in Beauty world. Irene Ang never fails to bring laughter to the crowd as the ah ma (maid). We found the ending kinda abrupt though. It seemed to be "undone". I guess most of us would have expected a different ending , but that was how the story goes :) *tsk! why Ivy not with ah hock.. hai!*

Sadly, I don't have the program notes for this production.. call me cheapo if u want, but the program notes cost $10 :P We'll see how. I may just pop by to grab one since they only end on the 19th. Chrissy bought the cd though and we were singing to the tunes in the car after the musical hehehe. Okay! Photo time :)

Ooops..forgot to mention ..We sat in the same row as Margret Chan :) Pity we didn't get the chance of a shot with her. A bit rude to have intruded on her like that though she spoke to us when she was walking out of the hall. Took us a min or two to realised it was her :) She was in the cast in the 1988 production ..wow..wondered which character she played.

Us in the hall :)
