The Tohs at Cirque Du Soleil Totem ( under the Big Top )

With the weather turning good in recent days, and the school holidays just being around the corner, it is time to plan for some activities for the family !

This year end, the Big Top at Marina Bay Sands is up again for a spectacular performance . Cirque Du Soleil is back after 10 years and brings us Totem this end October to 6 December under the Big Top !

Thanks to Base Entertainment, I was invited to catch this breath taking awesome troupe at the grounds of Marina Bay Sands

Written and directed by Robert Lepage, Totem features a cast of 46 acrobats, actors, musicians and singers from 17 countries performing an impressive collection of jaw-dropping acrobatic acts, in an uplifting array of athleticism, comedy, soul-touching theatrics and surprising visual effects.I simply love the carnival like environment :)

It is our first time at Cirque du soleil !

Mr Toh having a drink under the Big Top
on his birthday :D

There is a wide range of merchandise on sale

One of the most imporatant element about such acrobatic performances is accuracy and precision . Such amazing coordination is the result of many  hours of practices and rehearsals.

Watch them fly !

Even though knowing how good they are ,I still can't help but fear
for their safety !

The girls on these unicycle got me going crazy !
Perfect chemistry and coordination !

It was a fun night !

Now, don't say I never warn you ladies and those who are afraid of the cold ..
Do bring along a sweater or jacket to keep warm as the air-conditioning inside the big top
is freezing cold! Don't worry about drinks as there will be some snacks and drinks on sale .

Get your tickets soon before the good seats run out !

The Tohs at Beauty and the Beast

"Tale as old as time
True as it can be
Barely even friends
Then some body bends
Unexpectedly

Just a little change
Small to say the least
Both a little scared
Neither one prepared
Beauty and the beast
"

Don't almost all of us fairy tale lovers know the lyrics to this beautiful song that described how this handsome couple felt when they slowly became good friends?

It was a pleasure to be able to catch one of my childhood fairy tale on stage at the Mastercard Theaters at Marina Bay Sands 2 weeks ago . Thanks for the wonderful invite and for assigning me great seats ! I was really close to the stage :D

You have to be there to experience the magical and
enchantment of this fairy tale !
My photos just don't do justice to how beautiful the stage is :D

 The story

Beauty and the Beast tells the story of a prince who is transformed into a ugly hideous beast as punishment for his cruel and selfish ways. He has to win the love a lady so that he can be transformed into human again. In the turn of events, an elderly man chanced upon his castle and the Beast wanted to keep him in captive but his daughter ,adventurous young woman named Belle took his place instead .

This golden couple first met on the set and actually
fell in love during their time on stage and on set !!
They really do have very good chemistry!

This story is filled with heart warming moments,
sending positive messages to the audience

This is how Beauty and the Beast looks like
without the makeup and costumes :)

The Tohs at Mamma Mia !

'" You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only 17"

The year was 1980 when I first heard of this song. Being young and curious, I was " ransacking " through my youngest uncle's drawers when I came across some cassette tapes with 4 capital letters and 4 ang mohs on the cover.  Yes I can make out those 4 letters, wasn't that difficult for a 6 year old.. ABBA. I just had to play the tape on the player, and no, in case you were wondering, I had no idea who they were until I was much older and of coz I fell in love with quite a few of their songs!

So when I learn that Mamma Mia the musical would be coming to Singapore, I knew I just had to watch it~

Being a fan of the movie version, I try not to make any comparison between the live musical and movie . Both are good in their own ways :)

The musical though, was clearly more colorful in my opinion! I was really attracted to the whole stage set up . The costumes were in such popping colors !

Oh, if you do not know what Mamma Mia is all about, then let me give you a quick brief :)

20 yr old Sophie is about to marry her sweetheart Sky and has invited possible fathers to her upcoming wedding. Her mother has no idea who Sophie's dad is and chaos arises when the three men arrived in their little Greek island to attend the wedding. Expect lots of dancing and singing!~

How about a little song and dance from the TV version to get you in the mood?

The plot is quite simple and the dance moments were to some
extend silly but these ladies and their side kicks are able to
make you wanna sing and dance along with them!
Of cos ABBA's songs help greatly !

The three possible biological dads

They may not have the strongest vocals but
they sure have their moments :)

Young Sophie and Sky

We had much fun at the gala premium
Flying Dutch Man and Venette Lopez were there too!

Fun photo booth as usual :)

Mamma Mia would make such a good early Christmas present to your loved ones!

Catch it before they end! It has been extended till 14 December :)
Thank you Base Entertainment for the kind invite :)

A show not to be missed-- Cavalia

If you have drove passed or walked pass Marina Bay Sands area these days, you wouldn't have miss this big white tent that has popped up these few weeks. And if you thought you heard horses' neigh, then you didn't hear wrongly! The horses are our stars for top notch horses and acrobatic show- Cavalia and it has finally opened yesterday evening !

There are 50 horses that are housed in the white tents ( in comfy stables of course) . Here's a little trivia about the horses- they are all males and the average age is 6, while the oldest is 20 :)

The show - often labelled as an equestrian ballet  - combines advanced technology and the fundamental relationship that humans have developed with horses throughout time; enabling us to build bridges between cultures, to expand civilization and now to produce the purest form of art, one created through kindness, patience, and love. A show unlike any other, Cavalia celebrates the relationship between humans and horses, virtually reinventing the equestrian arts.

The tent with the office buildings
and The Sail at the background

Since I didn't get the the chance to take pictures with
the real horses, I just gotta make do with a plushie :P

Let's take a snapshot !

love where we were seated!
Right smack in the center :)
The stage has a whooping 60 meters screen!
Can you imagine how wide the stage is!
Definitely enough for the galloping horses!

We were really in for a treat once the curtains were lifted..
I love the surreal looking visual backdrop which totally
blended in with the different acts

The backdrop of mountain scenes looking
really good with the horses galloping

I shan't reveal all about the performances of course but I can assure you that your eyes will be glued to the stage from the start till the end of the performance! I was very awed by how well trained the horses are and how they responded to their trainer's cues.

See these lovely creatures "dance" on stage and
be captivated by how agile and beautiful they are as they
run around the perimeter of the stage. I can use one word to describe
--- Thrilling !

Especially so when the performers are standing on the horses' backs!
Are you excited already!?!?

How many of you have seen horses leaping through
hurdles ? You will be able to see this and more
at the amazing show  :)

If you were to ask which scene is my favorite, I would have to say I love the finale, the stage became a river of water and it was enchanting watching the horses prancing through the pond.

I strongly recommend Cavalia to all horse and animal lovers , and even if you do not particularly like horses , you will still enjoy the performance. Parents with children, this is one show not to be missed!

Standing ovation no less!

We were treated to bubbly champagne
and some snacks after the show
at the RENDEZ-VOUS lounge

Seen here with two of my fellow blogger friends
and two of the performers!

An evening at The Sound of Music

"Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things"

Hmm...I can hear you singing along with me~
Yes ! This is one of my all time favorite song  :)
and it is non other than from the well loved musical
" The Sound of Music"

This musical was quite part of my child hood days as I remembered clearly
that it was one of the first few movies I watched as little girl.

Now watch the story unfolds in a theatrical play in front of you
as you get to take in the view of the wonderful real like stage set
( imagine hill tops, to interior of a church, to a storm complete with lighting! )
to enjoying the amazing voices of the von Trapp children and the great casts!

The musical tells a true story of Maria, the fun-loving governess who changes the lives of the widowed Captain von Trapp and his seven children by re-introducing them to music,
culminating in the family’s flight across the Austrian mountains.
This iconic musical is sure to work its magic once again, for young and old alike.

Be mesmerised by these well loved songs once again :)
Do-Re-Mi’, ‘My Favorite Things’, ‘Climb Ev’ry Mountain’, ‘Sixteen Going on Seventeen’ and, of course, the glorious title song, ‘The Sound of Music

I was singing along to the tunes as they were being sung on stage~
I just can't help myself :)

the casts - the children * played by 18 children from
Singapore * , Captain von Trapp played by Andre Schwartz
and Maria played by the pretty Bethany Disckson
And boy does she look like Julie Andrews in that
cute pixie hairstyle of hers!

You will be blown away by the mavolous voices of
each and every of the actors

I just have to mention the role of Mother Abbess,
played by Janelle Visaqie . Her rendition of
"Climb every mountain'' is a crowd winner !
Her voice , powerful and crisp, made hitting the
high notes seemed effortless :)

Why now, don't hesitate! Go get yourselves some tickets!  If you love the songs, you will enjoy
an evening at the Sound of Music just like I did !

The ones who enjoyed an evening at Le Noir

With most of the performers reigning from Cirque du Soleil, it has to be one of my must watch performance for the year ! Now now, of course I am referring to none other than Le Noir! They are back in Singapore for the 2nd time after a great box office sell out last year . It is now open with more dare devil performances at  The MasterCard® Theatres, Marina Bay Sands. ( see below for ticketing info )

I had the opportunity to catch them on the opening night few evenings ago with my better half. We were allocated seats pretty near to the circular stage...right smack where the action is!

Expect nothing less of sensual and thrilling actions

I personally love it when there is interactions
with the audience . The performance is kept cosy
and at times it felt like  Moulin Rouge...
dark, seductive and risque!

Roller bolla act
It's amazing how the performer could
concentrate and balance on those cylinders !
We were literally holding our breaths for him!
But the above was just one of the
heart stopping acts..

The One act that got everyone gasping and holding on to
their seats tight is the WHEEL OF DEATH —one of the
world's most complex circus stunts that
will leave you on the edge of your seats.
The act features two acrobats who perform high-risk
feats atop and inside a pair of spinning wheels rotating high above the stage.

Did I mention that one of the perfomers even skipped
rope with out any harness or protection on top of those wheels?!

This is a brand new act...and one that you can't afford to miss!

With incredible demonstrations of balance, contortion, stamina and aerial artistry, the skillsexhibited by the cast of Le Noir make this a show that audiences won’t want to miss. Tickets are priced from SGD$70 and are now on sale.
