Get your pufferfish fix at FUKU Fine Fugu Kaiseki Restaurant

Once upon a time, its streets were filled with clubs and people would drink and party till the wee hours, Muhammad Sultan has yet seen another transformation. Today, gone are those clubs and it is a little food enclave where one can get to taste many different kinds of cuisines .

I was at one of the restaurants recently and had my first taste of something deemed to be dangerous and live threatening  !! But since I am here writing this , you can rest assured I am still alive and going on strong hehe!!

FUKU Fine Fugu Kaiseki Restaurant is the FIRST restaurant in Asia ( besides Japan) that puts fugu ( the famous pufferfish) in the limelight ! It is your Go to place for everything fugu related !

FUKU only serves Torafugu, the king of all fugu in their restaurant.

Some friends after knowing that I had a fugu feast questioned me about how was the fish prepared and if it was totally safe for consumption.

Acutally, no real fugu was being imported into Singapore. Fuku is imported twice weekly from Shimonoseki Japan’s (fugu capital) and with its internal organs removed under strict Japanese regulations. The restaurant also adhere to strict AVA regulations and coupled with the head chef -Mr.Koji's 20 years of experience under his belt, you can be assured that you are getting top quality fugu that is 100% safe for consumption.

FUKU has recently launched two new soup bases for its well loved fugu hotpot; the Soya Bean hot pot and the Red Miso hot pot.

I tried the soya bean soup base during this tasting and it has definitely captured my heart! That creamy thick soup base is something that I wouldn't mind having, bowl after bowl!

Here are the items to be placed into the hot pot .
This set is for 1-2 pax and priced at $70++
(the fugu is those two pieces in front )

That belly warming thick creamy soya bean broth..together with all the
fresh ingredients simply warms my heart

Fugu is low in fat content and rich in protein. After being cooked
in the broth, it tasted firm but not hard nor overcooked.
Rest assured that the wait staff are always there to assist you in the cooking
Broth is rich and sweet after being cooked with the fish and veggies.

Fuku also offers the Shabu Shabu hotpot with A5 beef imported from  Miyazaki Japan.
You can order ala carte at $70++ or have it as a set as seen in the menu below .

Here's another way of enjoying fugu
Deep fried fugu looks just like fried karaage!
I really thought I was eating chicken instead of fish!
All the goodness of fish !

Here's the ultimate! The most popular dish- Fugu sashimi or also known as tessa
Thinly sliced and each piece is as thin as the other , with the middle ones slightly
thicker to resemble petals of flower. Knifes used to prepare this dish has
exceptionally thin blades and uses a cutting technique known as the usudzukuri

See how translucent each slice is!
Do you know that there is no fishy taste to fugu?
It doesn't have any distintive taste to it as compared to the other sashimi we are
used to eating. The texture is also slightly chewy kinda like squid
and I must say I really like it !

So here's how it is being eaten..
Mix the spring onion, radish all into the ponzu dipping sauce.
You can proceed to dip the sliced sashimi into it and enjoy!
You can also eat it with a sprig of spring onion.

I hope my photos and description has spark an interest in you to
try out this exotic fish ! I am pretty happy to have tasted this and striked it
off my bucket list !

** do note that they are only open for dinner **

Diamond Kitchen Science Park 7 Course Seafood Signature Menu

I have heard many good things about the seafood offerings at Diamond Kitchen ,钻石小厨 at Laguna Park Condo. I just didn't get the chance to visit them :)

I was recently treated to dinner at their latest branch at Science Park 1. A tad far for us in the east, but for good food, Eileen is willing to travel ! :D

Location

You can easily find Diamond Kitchen on the first level of Oasis( formerly known as Science Park 1) . It is a big spacious 260 seater restaurant with two private rooms. In the day, you can enjoy looking out of the windows to lush tranquil view of the greenery and a swimming pool. There are also some large fish tanks where a variety of fresh seafood are kept.

Entrance

Menu

What sets this new Science Park branch apart from the one at the east is the new set menu that gives diners the opportunity to indulge in Diamond Kitchen's seafood signature dishes at a fraction of the a la carte price.

Let's take a look at what this set menu has to offer !!

7 Course Diamond Seafood Signatures Menu

Specially crafted to show case the best of Diamond Kitchen,  it also allows Head Chef Kevin Lau to display their culinary skills

Allow me to bring you thru the 7 courses we tried :) Oh before I go on, you can also order these dishes a al carte, but it will be more expensive if you do so. From now till 31st July 2015, you will be able to enjoy this course at $88++ per pax, with a minimum of 4 persons to dine in.  ( usual price $150++ per pax) (

 The food

First up, a refreshing and light dish of
 Shredded Chicken Salad with Abalone
Very delicious with the sesame oil and great as a starter

Super love this !! Has lots of garlic :D
Garlic Steamed Bamboo Clam
Springy Scottish bamboo clam is paried with glass noodles,
enoki muhsroom and sliced water chestnuts. The Hong kong steamed sauce
goes well with the clam and fried garlic !!

For this menu, you can choose how you want the fish to be cooked

Choose from Hong kong Steamed Giant Grouper
or
Superior Claypot Giant Grouper

This is the Hong kong Steamed Giant Grouper

The Giant Grouper is a fish that is prized
for its thick collagen rice skin !
This fish is not easy to cook as the meat is very thick
, but the ones we tasted tasted very nice and freshness ensured !
The part used here is the grouper belly

This is the claypot method.and the fish 's back is recommneded for
this cooking method. Can you see those thick skin ? Goes very well with rice

One of the star dish of this menu is the very wholesome Lobster Porridge
The broth is cooked with chicken stock laced with chinese wine and sliced ginger.
The rice is then socked with the stock and lobsters of coz ! Great on a cold day :)

One of the lackluster dish of this menu..
Stir fried sweet potato leaf with salted fish

And let me present to you

Diamond Gan Xiang Crab

Diamond kitchen's Gan Xiang crab ( 干香蟹)uses Sri Lankan crabs and are
wok fried with several spices to achieve this finger licking good spicy paste !
Totally a crab dish after my heart and belly !

As usual I love to end my meals with a sweet treat !
Lemongrass Jelly- shaved lime and honey ice swimming in cooling
lemongrass water. So refreshing ..so cooling!!

Food and service here is good and seafood dishes are top notch ~ It is a good venue for the family gathering or celebration of birthdays and special occasions !

MyKuali Penang Hokkien Prawn Noodle Soup

From the same brand that brought Singapore and Malaysia the popular White curry instant noodles , Mykuali has once again done it again !

Here's the delicious Penang Hokkien Prawn Noodles ! It's very simple to whip this up! I simply love the sambal chilli paste ! And there is even a packet of crispy fried shallots that comes with the noodles . Add them all in for optimum taste !

I had some prawns, mushroom and veg oh
and of coz an egg for the noodles .

Instructions :
(In a seprate pot , cook prawns, veg and mushroom )

1-Bring 380ml of water to boil in a pot

2- Add in noodle, seasoning powder and that power sambal chilli and let it cook for 3 mins

3- Serve with the packet of crispy fried shallots provided and you are ready to dig in !

Personally, I like the strong aroma of the chili and soup. It does have that prawny seafood taste to it.
Pity the sambal chilli can be considered too oily for some. I don't recommend to drink all the soup , but it does make the noodles taste better !!

You can get your Mykuali Penang Hokkien Prawn Noodles Soup ($4.50)  at all Giant and Cold Storage supermarkets now

The Manhattan FISH MARKET has always been well loved for their seafood and fish dishes .Surprisingly , they fare pretty well in dishing out beefy items too !

For a limited period of time, The Manhattan FISH MARKET has married beef with seafood items to come up with 4 main courses to tempt your taste buds !

We were treated to a hearty meal last week. Starting the dinner with very colorful selection of drinks and also had one round of starters .

MFM has a wide selection of beverages

We couldn't get enough of these fried onions
and the mayo dip!

We had so much to feast on :)

Here's the one for the guy :) Meat and fish ...great combo :D

Oven Baked Beef Rib & Grilled Ocean Perch $25.95* you can change the perch to either salmon ( + $1.00) or cod (+$2.00)
Personally I prefer the fish than the meat.. The piece of ribs we had was a bit tricky to cut and was slightly dry, but overall it was decent :)

The following main course is for ladies!

Oven Baked Beef Rib & Flaming Prawns  $23.95
This dish is good for those with smaller appeite and still wants the best of both worlds :)
See that slightly charred prawns covered with melted cheese?
The staff will come to your table just to torch the cheese for you !

++++++++++++++++++++++++

Handmade Beef Patty & Bouillabaisse ..
I like the pairing of beef and seafood ! $16.95

Handmade Beef Patty & Tempura Prawns Burger $15.95 is quite a sight isn't it
Love the slightly spicy mayo tempura prawns and I like thick fries like these :)
Pity the buns were abit tad dry, but otherwise tasty :)

Manhattan Flaming Seafood Platter

We were also treated to one of MFM's favorite platter . Not only there are generious portions of fish fillets, oysters and calamari, there are also veggies and side of rice. A wait staff will also come by your table to light up the cheesey prawns right before your eyes !

Thats not all the food we tasted !
It 's always nice to end a meal with something sweet !

This is a upgraded version of our local delight
Fried banana fritters topped with ice cream and drenched with
coconut cream!! Sinfully good!!

Eat it while it's hot!! errm..or should I say eat it before it melts? hehehe
