My Gua Sha ( 美容刮痧) experience with BeautyHope

There is a saying that goes  " There are no ugly women, but there are lazy women" . What this sentence is trying to say is there are no shortcuts in maintaining one's youth ! The stress levels we face these days plus the crazy lifestyles and eating out habits are slowly but surely ruining our skin and looks ! Everyone is striving hard to look good and stay young :) In the process of doing so, a lot of us seek help from the professions in the beauty industry to help us achieve our beauty goals ~

I was thankful to visit BeautyHope at their 2nd and newest outlet at Waterloo Center. It is just a 3 min.walk from Bugis Junction ~ I love this location as it is so centralized as well as near to my favorite shopping and cafe enclave !

BeautyHope  has been a long standing player in the beauty and skincare industry . Having well trained and experienced beauty consultants and therapists has kept them very popular with customers from all ages and walks of life ! When I was there for my appointment, there were the heartland auntie who was waiting for her turn and as I was leaving, there was also a teacher who was preparing to do her facial :) So really, everyone should make it a point to take care of your skin ~

So, before we proceed to the facial itself, I was told to fill up a form that required me to answer certain questions on my lifestyle and dietary  habits. The things we eat, how much we sleep ( or for that matter, how little we sleep) , lifestyle habits are all reflected  upon our skins. Healthy skin maintains a proper barrier between your internal organs and your environment.

is very warm and friendly ~

Facial process

As discussed earlier, I will be doing the Gua Sha treatment . Some of you may think that gua sha is only for the body, but in actual fact, it can be done to the face as well ! Of coz you got to look for the right practitioner to help you on that ~ The beauty therapists at Beautyhope have all undergone strict training before they can do the treatment on our faces. It is important to know where are the points to apply pressure upon using the special ox horn tool along with organic essential oils on our faces and necks.

So I was shown to the room where the facial treatment will take place
here's me after donning on the tube clothing :)

The therapist was very patient with me and even though I had only very light make up, she was very thorough and only applied very gentle motions when it comes to makeup removal . After inspecting my clean and cleansed face, she proceeded on to trim my eye brows ( they havent been trimmed for a couple of months ! >_< ) I like how she cleaned up the stray brows and gave me a natural look.

Soon after, my face was given the tingling bubble mask to exfoliate and prepare my skin for the extraction. This bubble mask is very good as it practically made the extraction painless ~!

Hope I didn't scare u ! :D

I was almost falling asleep as up to this stage, everything
has been very comfortable . My skin does look brighter after
the bubble mask ! I do get some redness around my cheeks
as I do have mild sensitive skin

Benefits of Gua Sha

As we all know, there is nothing much we can do to stop time and gravity. Unless one is willing and has the funds to go under the knife, it is usually inevitable that our skin will start to show signs of aging , such as sagging jaw line or appearance of wrinkles ( yes, sadly it is happening to me ! ) Gua sha is able to slow down these aging signs to a certain extend ~

Here are some of the benefits of this chinese beauty treatment ~

-- improve on blood circulation ( makes us look less tired !~)
-- helps in lymphatic drainage ( great for flushing out toxins )
-- helps in reliving neck and shoulder pain ( we sit way too long in front of the computers n work desks ! )
-- reduce facial pores
-- lighten pigmentation

I am all in for this beauty treatment ! The effects are almost visible after one treatment .

Here are some of the steps and motions applied to my face and neck area
It is very comfortable and no pain at all to me. Of coz if you feel uncomfortable
at any point in time, do let the therapist know ~ :)

Applying the special tool on the right places has great effects and benefits

Here's me totally relax and skin looking bright after the Gua sha ~!

I was given a mask after my gua sha treatment and the therapist also gave me a
scalp n head massage . Very relaxing indeed.
(I wouldn't be posting that photo as it was
pretty Halloween like !~  )

I am very pleased with the reasults I must say !
The deep laugh lines around my mouth
has reduced to a certain extend and skin feels very smooth and taut !
Well, if I can delay aging within my means , why not :)

Really thankful to Beautyhope for this chance to try out the Gua Sha treatment
You ladies have been a great help and made me felt at ease too !

Eileen's Shopping bag

Just a quick post on some of the skincare and make up I bought in the past mths.. There were more stuff.. but hehee.. I only dare to post these :P

I love the Biore Sunscreen as
it is not sticky when applied to my arms n legs
I guess it's partly due to some alcohol content in it
But as long as I don't use it on my face.. a little
should be okay..I totally dislike the sticky kind :P

I got the Kate makeup base as well as
the jelly mousse primer from
Tony Moly.

Can't resist the watery moisturizer
from Faceshop. Stock up on my regular
eyemasks as well as the eye gel.

Got these two from ebay
and my bro brought it back
from the States for me :)

Ok..so there u go...
Did I pamper myself too much?
I know I am not alone~~~

I like to smell "nice nice" after bathing

Did you read this article on Urban last Friday? It mentioned the collaboration of certain designers with some beauty products. One of the products caught my attention.

I was rather keen to try it...

Hehe, I managed to buy it from Mustafa that very evening . It really has a nice perfume like scent!

It is a bit drying for my skin..so I have to slap on my usual body lotion after bath.. but ,
for $3.50, and the lovely scent.. it is a steal ..

The One who tried out the foamy hair dye

It has been months since I last colored my hair. The different tones between the roots and the ends were quite obvious. As I wasn't quite keen on spending $80 just to have it colored at the salon, I bought the latest hair dye from NTUC. Chris tried it out first and the color looked pretty passable for a DIY dye :)

It has a sugary name : Sweet Pink
Packaging is attractive too

In fact, i knew that this product will be out in the market quite sometime ago. The company were doing their marketing survey last year, and I was one of those who did their questionnaire. I got $5 after 15 mins.. anyway..back to me dying my hair~

Getting ready...
the items in the box..

here's the difference!
it's foamy..and goes onto your hair
like shampoo..
Did I mention it cost more than the other dyes?

You just apply it to dry hair, massage it
and that's it.. almost fuss free.. although you may wanna use a wide tooth comb to go thru it. Else you have to massage thoroughly so to spread the dye evenly.

leave it on for 20-30 mins
rinse it off, followed by shampoo and conditioner :)

End result
( taken with flash)

oh, it is mere fraction of what I would have to pay at the salon. $19.90 for this dye ( yes, slightly dearer than other brands..but quite an ease to use )

==================

Since we are on the subject of beautifying oneself.. We sometimes or often neglect one part ..that is the feet! I used to have very bad cracked heels. It doesn't help when I have rather itchy hands too. I would peel them. Yeah!~ Bad I know. I was wobbling at one point as the crack was so bad that it hurts as I walked. From that day on, I vowed not to pick at it..and also to take proper care of it.. :) Although it is still dry these days, the heels are not as bad as they were weeks ago. Here's what i have been doing ......basic foot care ..very simple :P

First, I would fill up a basin of warm water, pour in a dollop of foot soak, place my feet inside and soak them for a good 10-15 mins. Then, I would use the Bodyshop Lemon grass foot polish and finish off with a good scrub with that heel scrub apparatus ( what is that call? I have no idea)

These are the two creams I apply every night
you have to be discipline to apply every night

The Eight hour cream smells pretty medical
But it works for me! You can use it for chapped lips too

Yes, I know ..you are wondering how to walk with all those cream on the sole right?
|

|
|
|
|
Wear some socks~
These are meant to be worn at home..
there is anti slip at the sole

There you go..
keep them on when u sleep
Feet will be soft in the morning :)

I love these socks..should have bought more from
the lady... it's only $4
--------------------

oh, I bought another new dress ...
I am into dresses these days..they are so easy to wear and
move around :)

Why am I not surprise it's blue again :P

Right.so i toyed with the picture :P
it's so easy to beautify oneself these days
surely u can see that the lashes are fake

Overcoming her dental fears! Done!

The moment has arrived . At 10.30am this morning to be exact. I was torn into pieces. I took heavy strides as I walk from my flat to the dental clinic . My heart was about to pop out as I pushed the door open to the clinic. The lady recept greeted me and I was shown into the doctor's room in no less than 3 minutes.

A pleasant looking gentleman of early 40s appear from the adjourning room . I was a little apprehensive still as to how I will be treated under his probing :X Boy was he awfully gentle when he speaks! Dr. Lim is soft spoken, plus he speaks well and in a comforting manner, thus alleviating some of my fears.

I had to prepare him mentally for what I think could be one of his worst night mare..so I recounted my fears of dentists and told him that my condition could be really bad. As I laid back on the chair, many silly thoughts ran by my mind. Now what if I bleed real bad? what if it was 'irrpairable' ? haha..lots of 'what ifs' running around.

So as it is, I am deemed as very 'holey' ( no floating halos above my head ) . The major issue has been addressed and I'll have to return to patch up the smaller cavities . Dr. Lim had to reassure me that it will be quite pain free with the local anesthesia ..though I still seriously dislike the sound of the drill.

There was a minor hiccup during the patching process as my gums were quite senstive and started to bleed. So Dr. Lim had to stop it. So it took slightly longer time than usual to fix it. But it has been done! :D

It really took alot for me to gather the courage to face up to my fears. Thankfully it was not as bad as I thought. With that said, I have promised myself not to procrastinate when it comes to dental issues. It's just not worth it..not to mention the costs!

Dental fear is real. I mean those who has gone thru bad experience would probably understand how I feel.

Here's some advice to over come this horrible fear.

The most important step to overcoming dental anxiety is finding a good dentist and you should always start with a list of dentists so that you have options. A good dentist is one who:

  • is patient
  • is highly competent
  • endeavors to make each meeting pain free
  • genuinely cares about you
  • has the ability to nurture you through past traumas.
Ask friends and family for a list of dentists that they would recommend

I still clammed up and still get very tensed
But it is a big step for me to face up to it
