Our local favorite, Ponggol Nasi Lemak has since opened a new outlet at Jalan Bersar just opposite the former now demolished Lavender Food Square/ Eminent Plaza . Fully air-conditioned and the equipped with a fast food style ordering system, this flagship branch has two stories of dinning space. It is sure a welcome for me as there is no need to battle with the crowd and heat to enjoy my fav. nasi lemak! One thing thou, this outlet is not open for supper :P So if you are craving for some fragrant rice and chicken wings at 12 midnight, pls head down to the other two outlets
Helmed by the third generation owner, Mr Edmund Ang and his aunt, Mdm Ang Siew Lay, this Jalan Bersar branch has a few "First" for Ponggol Nasi Lemak! :)
As mentioned above, it is the first of its 3 stores
have fast food style ordering..
You can choose from 4 different Nasi Lemak Set Meals
or you can also customized your orders

Premium house specialties only found in Jalan Bersar branch
1: . Crispy Battered Whole Prawn ($3.80 x 2 pieces) and
Crispy Battered Fish Fillet ($3.80 x 2 pieces)
Fresh prawns and fish were used :)
Each piece is battered and fried to crisp perfection before being served
with a house-made minty aioli dip .
The batter is super crispy and still was
even when cold !! Simply love the fish and prawns!
Can I just say these are quite out of the world super crunchy and crispy? You can hear the *cruk cruk* when you bite into one of these crispy chicken skin !This is a very time consuming dish to prepare especially with the removal of fats from underneath the skin ! They are then triple fried so that it stays fresh and crisp longer..after which are all mixed with special concoction of kacap manis, black pepper, curry leaves and spices. Get a whole tub and share with your friends and family! Really good as a snack LOL !! Just remember to exercise after your meal!
3 Signature Ngoh Hiang ( $1.50 /1 piece )
Hokkiens are very famous for their Ngoh Hiang. These deep fried rolls are made using the Ang's family recipe. You can't go wrong with these crunchy rolls as there are water chestnuts added to the minced pork blended with five spice power. One thing thou, the beancurd skin is tad salty.. I suppose they didn't really soak in water for long.. Well, one or two rolls wouldn't be an issue for dinner ! :)
4. Grilled Japanese Squid with Special Sauce ($7.50)
Hello there air flown from Japan Squid ! Nicely grilled and best eaten with the special dip of kacap manis, soy sauce, garlic , shallots, lime and chili. Would be better if squid isn't that dry...
5 After you feast on all the above new premium items, it is time to wash it all down with a refreshing icy cup of Homemade Hibiscus Ice Tea ! ( $1.90 ) Some say this is like ribena :) I personally like it. Brewed daily in house, this drink is high in anti-oxidants and is said to help with digestion and improving blood circulation.
Hibiscus Ice Tea
It was a tummy bursting food tasting session for sure ~
Do you know that there are automatic fryers just to prepare the
famous chicken wings as well as automated griller for the otah too?!
This is great as food preparation is sped up and also ensures consistency in quality
Doesn't this egg look perfectly rounded and well cooked!?
yes, even the eggs are all prepared by a special machines!!
There is no better way to end your nasi lemak
feasting than on a sweet sweet note!!
6. Homemade Ice Cream & Sorbet ($2.50/ cup)
These sorbet desserts are made in store from fresh fruits with no
preservatives nor coloring. The sorbets are great on a hot day! The
selections include Raspberry mango
( love this !has bits of mango ) ,
lemongrass lime, pink guava , passion fruit and my other fav , kyoho
grapes ! we also tried 2 delicious ice cream flavors - milo and peanut
butter milk and love them both !!
The grand dame who started Ponggol Nasi Lemak came down specially
to welcome us bloggers and instagrammers ! She is seen here with her grandson, Edmumd :)
Apparently she got on quite well with Alex,
coz they shared the Hokkien lang 福建人 affinity :)
Thank you once again Ponggol Nasi Lemak, and Rachel for the kind invite !
